You may find yourself with an older guitar that you haven’t picked up in a couple years or bought used and now its action is really high. The instrument might even have some bowing in its neck. These are common issues affecting older instruments especially in regions like ours that have cold, dry winters. Is the guitar a lost cause? Probably not! An expert can really do wonders by properly shimming the guitar’s neck. Because guitar necks are made of wood and they move and bend just slightly so even after the bridge is lowered, and the trust rod adjusted, your action may still be too high and that peaky bow can still there.

A qualified tech can take your guitar’s neck completely off and shim it. This will realign your guitar so that, when it’s set up, your action will be much lower and the instrument will play much easier and with better sustain. Sometimes just a set up won’t do the trick. Shimming can be the answer for some guitars but it’s not for every case. Sometimes fret crowning is the needed fix but we will save that for our next ” tech tongue”. Now, rock on and keep makin’ music!

Do you have an acoustic guitar with no strap button on the heal of the neck? Tying the strap with a shoelace around the headstock makes for an uncomfortable ride: the strap is up way too high and your guitar will slide around. Simply bring your guitar into our shop and for $12 we will install a permanent button for your strap. Now your guitar will feel comfortable and ride nicely over your shoulder and back. Comfy is the way to go!
